About the Therapist

Emmy Akiyama is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and Registered Art Therapist.

Emmy received her M.A. in Marital & Family Therapy with specialized training in Art Therapy from Loyola Marymount University. She has over 10 years of hospital, community mental health, and school-based experience providing therapy and case management for a diverse portfolio of patients individually, and in groups. She also has masters level teaching experience on the topic of multicultural issues in the therapy profession. In addition to being trained as an art therapist, Emmy is also trained in Hakomi somatic therapy skills, and in grief & loss issues, which are all described on the Specialized Training page.

Emmy is a member of the American Art Therapy Association (AATA), and the California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists (CAMFT).
